Drunk and drive cases on the rise in TN

As the state lags in having proper law enforcement and has easy-available alcohol, number of on-road fatalities due to drunk and drive cases is on the rise in Tamil Nadu. The state ranked fifth place in total number of cases during 2011. But now, the state has well improved to reach third position this year, says data sources from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

Considering 2013, there were 718 such drunk and drive accidents in the state. This count is high by 200 than number of cases registered in 2011. The top two places go to Madhya Pradesh having 1012 and Bihar with 790.

According to road safety authorities, the number counted is very low than the actual count. Speaking to Karuna Sagar, the Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Chennai, he says be believes the actual count should be higher than the recorded one.
