Posted on: 17/Jul/2010 3:24:21 AM

C. Rajendran District Collector announced that steps would be taken to provide educational loans for the children of farmers and handbooks containing information on agricultural schemes and assistance for farmers. This was in response to the requests by the farmers` at the grievance redressal meeting held on Friday.

The Collector also ordered the distribution of 16,000 saplings throughout the district. . He assured that he would look into their demand of bringing in farmers under the 100-day work scheme with 50 per cent wages from the owner of the land and the rest from the government. The farmers raised the issue, as there was no manpower to remove the weeds in the groundnut crops cultivated under the 100-day work scheme. The farmers also requested the district administration to take steps to streamline the flow of water from the Udayendram check dam. Pointing out to the scarcity of rain and reduction in ground water, the farmers wanted proper measures to conserve rainwater.
