Alarming situation for TNEB

Posted on: 03/Sep/2014 9:46:29 AM
It is now an alarming situation for the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, as September month has begun, waving off wind energy generation. TNEB is now fully dependent on thermal power which is the primary source of power for the state. In addition, the central power plants have gone offline due to maintenance. Worsening the situation, central plants are temporarily shut down due to coal shortage.

Furthermore, plans to obtain power supply from northern parts of the country got derailed by the Central Electricity Authority, as it allotted space to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for Sholapur-Raichur transmission line. The state is already facing outage of power.

Will TNEB manage to supply power this season or resort to power cuts?
On their part, the TNEB officials have shared their confidence to meet the shortfall due to lack of supply of wind power. They say, the condition is far better than last year. Few thermal plants in private and public sectors are to be commissioned very soon, they pointed.
