Special Prayers on the day of ‘Aadi Pooram’ – Huge crowds of women devotees in Amman Temples in Chennai!

As per the Tamil Calendar, the day of the star ‘Pooram’ (one of the 27 stars) falling on the Tamil month of ‘Aadi’ is considered especially scared to pray in ‘Amman’ temples of Goddess Durga or Sakthi.

Today, Wednesday, 30th July, is ‘Aadi Pooram’ day. There were huge crowds of women devotees performing special prayers in all Amman Temples in Chennai.

The occasion was celebrated in a grand manner in the ‘Padala Ponni Amman temple, located in Kilpauk.

On the occasion, more than 500 women carried milk pots from the Gangadheeswarar Temple in Purasawalkam in Chennai to the Kilpauj Padala Ponni Amman Temple in a procession. A special milk ‘abihishekam’ was performed in the temple with the milk carried by these women.

In the Kadumbadi Amman Temple located in Azhwarthirunagari Mettukkuppam, a special function was conducted for 100 pregnant women where new bangles were presented to them.

Large crowds of women devotees gathered from the early mornings in the Thiruverkadu Karumari Amman Temple. They had a special Darshan of the Goddess. The crowd was quite large today.A special ‘Navakalasa Abhishekham’ will be performed for the Goddess at 6.00 PM today. At 7.00 PM, a special bangles offering ceremony for the Goddess is scheduled.

There was a collection of large gathering of women devotees in Mangadu Kamakshi Amman Temple. The bangles worn for the Goddess were distributed to the women devotees.

Large crowds of women devotees were present in other famous temples such as Munda kannai Amman Temple in Mylapore, Kalikambal Temple in Parry’s corner, Kadumbadi Amman Temple in Saidapet, and Vadivudai Amman Temple in Thiruvotriyur. They performed special prayers.
