Director Cheran’s new scheme to prevent VCD video piracy

In order to completely prevent the pirated CD business, the noted Tamil Film Director, Mr. Cheran has presented a new proposal. This will involve making the VCDs of new films available to homes & residences.
The scheme involves facilitating the distribution of the VCDs of new films in all houses all over Tamil Nadu.Mr. Cheran has named this scheme as ‘C2H’ – Cinema to Home.
The scheme is planned to include all types of film screening facilities such as DTH, Internet, Cable TV, and DVD direct to each and every home.
The inauguration was conducted at Kamaraj Arangam, Chennai. Participating in the function, the director, Mr. Cheran, informed:
Only 10% of the films released during last year made profit or at lease recovered the production cost. The balance 90% films failed at the box-office. While analysing the reasons for this failure, it was found that most people have shortage of time. Also, there is work pressure; they would like to see films only when they have some free time. Faculties have come to provide this.
Anti-social elements have exploited this development to huge benefits. They screen movies without permission and sell the pirated CDs in illicit manner and have almost succeeded in wining the people to come to their side.
Our principal aim is to eliminate this piracy business completely. This will enable most of the producers at least to recover the cost of production. This is how C2H was started. This will enable the elimination of the piracy gangs who swindle money that should have gone to the producers.
In the current year, 298 films have been censored. However, only 159 have been screened in theatres. The rest of the films could not find theatres to release.C2H will provide an outlet to overcome this problem.
As per C2H, even as the film is running in the theaters, authorised Cds will be supplied to the homes.
All big-scale film CDs will be made available 1 week after the release of the film in theaters. 7000 agents are being appointed. Each agent will have around 4000 homes under his distribution.
As a first stage, films such as ‘JK yenum Nanbanin vazhkkai’, ‘Anne’, ‘Sivappy yenakku pidikkum’, ‘Megha’, ‘Appavin Meesai’, and ‘Velmurugan Borewelch’ will be distributed under the C2H scheme to homes.
