According to reliable sources the Chennai Metro Rail is likely to conduct a trial run in the 5 km underground stretch from Koyambedu to Shenoy Nagar next month.
Phase-I of Chennai Metro Rail has two corridors, a 23.1-km stretch (Washermanpet to Airport) and another of 22 km (Chennai Central to St Thomas Mount).

The Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) successfully conducted an inspection trial run between Alandur and Airport recently using a self-propelled Overhead Maintenance Vehicle (OME).
The total length of the Phase I of the project is 45 kms, Washermanpet to Airport 23.1 kms and Chennai Central to St.Thomas Mount 22 kms, initially nine trains will be deployed for operations from Koyambedu to Alandur covering a distance of 10 kms.
Chennai Metro Rail Ltd is gearing to conduct trials and commission the Saidapet-Alandur-Airport elevated line this year, having completed most of the construction work.
