Is there any other medicine for diabetes other than insulin?

It has been medically established that bitter gourd is a vegetable that reduces sugar level. Chinese experts have also informed that the chemicals such as surrentin and momardin are present in bitter gourd which helps reduce the sugar level.

However, reducing sugar level alone will not help in controlling diabetes. Medicines which reduce the sugar level do not provide complete cure for diabetes.

Apart from reducing sugar level, bitter gourd, containing anti-oxidants,  also reduce the fat level in blood and reduces the cell destruction. Fenugreek seeds and greens and Curry leaves also do this function. This is the speciality of our traditional food preparation.

Taking bitter gourd will not have any reaction to the other medicines. However, it is better to give a 45minutes gap before consuming the medicine just to ensure the bio-availability of both bitter gourd and the medicine are not affected.

Siddha treatment prohibits taking bitter gourd. Hence, people taking siddha treatment should consult their doctor before taking bitter gourd.

Consuming excess sugar, shortage of physical exercise, obesity, and tension are not the only reasons for diabetes. Has the instance of diabetes increased after the introduction of plastic cups for drinking? Is it the chemical in the plastic item that led to increase in cases of diabetes? Is it because of the millions of tons of pesticides and insecticides used in agriculture? Is it the protein contained in the pasteurized milk? Or is it the germs and bacteria in the highly polluted environment? Is it the strain on the pancreas or the destruction of the ‘islet’ cells’? Research is going on!

Siddha system considers diabetes as one of the cloud diseases. Excess food or sexual activity is cited as the reason for diabetes. The harmful side effects of diabetes were discussed in the early periods.

Irrespective of the curative medicine, proper diet, physical exercise, and Yoga practice for mind & body equilibrium can bring diabetes under gradual control. In consultation with the doctor, medication can be reduced gradually.

Understanding diabetes among the non-communicable diseases has been the most important pursuit. Research is still carried out to find a suitable medicine or treatment under a lot of difficulties, commercial blocks and other disturbances.

There are plenty of medicines advertised and sold in the market. New medicines and treatments come into play. However, the support of the family doctor, exact medication, traditional food, happy mind and a good lifestyle are the nest routes for controlling and avoiding diabetes!
