Thyroid glands are butterfly shaped glands located in the neck region in us and thyroid is a disease that affects the hormones secreted by the thyroid glands in us.

It must be noted that the 2 types of hormones secreted by the thyroid gland play an important role in our metabolism and body functions etc. In other words, using iodine from the blood, thyroid glands secretes hormones like thyroxine and triiodothyronine. When there is deficiency in either of these hormones, then the normal body functions would get affected severely. This could lead to either hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism in the person and he or she would have many issues.

When a person has been diagnosed with thyroid, then he or she must never do these

Skipping medication:

Point is that a person with hypothyroidism must never ignore medication at any cost. The person must consume medicines regularly so that the hyperthyroidism doesn’t lead to cardiovascular conditions in them.

Stress:

If a person has thyroid problem, then it is a must that he or she must avoid stress compulsorily. It is true that excessive stress could lead to more thyroid issues and it becomes a vicious cycle.

Taking thyroxine with coffee/ breakfast:

One mistake some people with thyroid do is that they take thyroxine along with the morning coffee or breakfast etc. It is essential to give atleast a gap of 1 hour between intake of coffee or breakfast and intake of thyroxine. To treat thyroid effectively, a person must take thyroxine without fail.

Taking raw cruciferous vegetables:

The risk of thyroid dysfunction could become more when a person eats raw cruciferous vegetables. This is due to the presence of glucosinolates in these raw cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, cassava etc.

Intake of soy products:

The body’s ability to use the thyroid hormones would get hampered when the person with thyroid issue consumes soy products. This is mainly due to estrogen that is present in the soy products. It is believed that this would increase the risk of hypothyroidism.

Smoking:

Optimal functioning of the thyroid gland would get hampered by smoking. Truth is that those persons who smoke are more prone to thyroid imbalances in them.

Intake of excess sugars:

Intake of excess amounts of sugar would act as a stimulant for a hyperactive thyroid gland. This would lead to weight gain. It is known that hypothyroidism could also lead to weight gain. Therefore, it is necessary to minimize intake of sugar.
