We must consume moong beans or dal compulsorily for these reasons

In whatever way we prepare, intake of dal would provide us with superb nutrients. In several regions belonging to northern India, dal or lentils is a staple food is a well known fact.

To prepare dishes such as khichdi, chilla or sprouts etc, moong dal or green gram is one common type of lentils that is used. Mostly found in India, moong dal is also found in China plus in various places in south-east Asia. It is worthy to note that moong dal is derived from mature mung beans.

One of the richest sources of plant protein, green dal or moong dal is regarded as a super food. Point is that moong dal has calories, fats, proteins, carbs, fibre, folates etc. It also has got minerals like magnesium, manganese, iron, phosphorus, zinc plus vitamin B1etc. There are many essential amino acids like leucine, phenylalanine, valine etc in moong dal and hence intake of moong beans or dal is superb for health.

Good for weight loss:
The presence of fibre plus protein in moong beans would keep us fuller for a long time. By this, we would not eat in excess. For regeneration and repair of damaged cells, proteins are important. It is said that a combination of dal with rice would help a person to lose his or her excess weight.

Reduce high BP:
Elder persons have a common issue and that is high blood pressure. This high BP would lead to heart disease etc in them. The blood pressure would get reduced by the intake of moong dal. It is possible to lower the risk of high BP by adding diet rich in potassium, magnesium etc.

Manages diabetes:
Persons with diabetes can consume moong beans that have a low glycemic index of 38. The insulin levels and blood glucose levels get reduced by the presence of protein, magnesium, fibres in moong dal.

Good for digestion:
The presence of pectin in the moong beans would keep the bowel movements regular. By this, stools would be passed out easily. Intake of moong beans would help in the growth of healthy gut bacteria. Our digestive health would be good.

Helps pregnant women:
By consuming moong dal rich in folates, the growth and development of foetus would be good. Truth is that 80% of RDI is provided by the intake of one cup of cooked moong beans.

Prevents us from heat stroke:
During the summer season, it is common that we get affected by heat stroke. It is believed that by consuming moong dal we could avoid getting heat stroke. The anti-inflammatory properties of green gram would help us to get protection from heat stroke. We would be kept hydrated by drinking moong dal soup.
