You might have come across some persons swirling oil in their mouths in the early morning in an empty stomach for 10 to 15 minutes and then spitting the oil out. This is referred to as oil pulling.

This is an old practise that has become famous again as it provides many health benefits for the persons who do it regularly. By oil pulling, we would be able to get rid of all the harmful bacteria from our mouths and we could have infection free oral cavities.

Oil pulling method:
In the first step, one teaspoon of coconut or almond or sesame oil is taken. In the next step the oil is swished around the mouth for 10 to 15 minutes. Take care that the oil is not swallowed. Finally, the oil from the mouth is spitted and the mouth is rinsed with water.

Health benefits of oil pulling are

Less chances of tooth decay:
Not many of us know that there are around 350 bacteria present in our mouths and 50 percent of those are harmful. Tooth decay could result from these harmful bacteria and oil pulling reduces the chances of getting tooth decay.

Bad breath eliminated:
Many of us have bad breath issues or halitosis. It is believed that bad eating habits and poor oral hygiene could lead to this issue. This bad breath issue would be eliminated by oil pulling.

Good for gums health:
It must be taken into note that oil pulling kills harmful bacteria that affects the gums. In addition, oil pulling also moistens gums and improves circulation of blood. Gum health gets better. It is a fact that gums keep our teeth in place and gum issues would lead to falling of the teeth.

Salivation gets better:
Our overall mouth heath would get improved by oil pulling that would increase the saliva in the mouth. Dry mouth is due to lack of enough saliva in the mouth and this issue would not be there if we do oil pulling.

Good for our overall health:
It is true that oil pulling could provide us better immunity and good overall health. Our body becomes healthy in a natural way.
