Sometimes, the quality or the number of red blood cells in the body decreases to a point and the body is deprived of oxygen rich blood. This condition is called anaemia. It is said that 33 percent of the population of the world has got this anaemia. Various symptoms of anaemia are C etc.

If the haemoglobin levels falls below 14 to 18 grams per deciliter of blood in males and 12 to 16 grams per decilitre of blood in females, then the person he or she would be referred to as anaemic. It is necessary to take iron supplements or eat iron rich foods.

The haemoglobin levels in the body could be increased by consuming these iron rich foods.

Intake of whole grains:
It is said that those having anaemia must eat whole grains without fail. It must be noted that whole grains are unprocessed grains with 3 parts namely bran, germ and endosperm. Bran, the outer layer provides fibre, iron, potassium etc and would increase the haemoglobin levels in us. Few examples are whole wheat bread, oatmeal etc.

Intake of green vegetables:
Being rich sources of non-heme iron, they could be consumed by us to increase the haemoglobin levels in us. Few examples of green veggies are kale, broccoli, spinach etc. It is believed that intake of vitamin C along with these green vegetables could help in the better iron absorption.

Intake of beans:
Haemoglobin in our blood would improve when we consume beans rich in folates. There would be more production of red blood cells in us. Few examples are chickpeas, kidney beans, soy beans etc.

Intake of tofu:
Rich in proteins but low in fat, tofu is superb for vegans who want to increase their haemoglobin levels. When tofu is taken along with vitamin C, then there would be better absorption of iron.
