Unannounced power cuts - 1,270 MW Electricity Shortages in a Single Day

Posted on: 06/Feb/2014 11:56:23 AM

People are getting discontent, because of inconsistency in the power cut.  Since the demand is more than the production of the electricity, the shortage is getting balanced by the power cut.

Since 2006, there prevails a massive electricity demand in TamilNadu. In this state, the new rule of power cut of 40 percent for Industries; 20 percent for Trade Connectivity has come into play. In housing units, power cut begins from morning 8 AM to evening 6 PM in a cyclic way. Chennai residents will get power cut for 2 hours and for others it is 5 hours.

Last year, due to additional thermal power plants in Vallore, North Chennai extension and Mettur extension, TamilNadu gets additional of 2,500 MW of electricity. Because of this 40 percent of power cut in Industries got reduced to 20 percent.

In this state, due to various factors like, fire accident in North Chennai thermal power plant during last November; coal demand in Vallore; less power production in Hydraulic power plant due to deficient in rainfall, the electricity production of 3000 MW got affected.

In her speech in Assembly Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha states that, Inspite of various measuring steps, to balance the shortage of 1200 MW electricity the power cut augmented in TamilNadu.
