IITs and IISc brings engineering education to rural areas

With the aim of bringing quality education in Engineering to students in rural areas, IITs and IISc have taken the initiative with their NPTEL - National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning. Under this, they have launched engineering courses with subtitles in different regional languages – Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
This is currently a huge success. The success is literally proved by the 25000 visitors to the portal. And, the YouTube page received about 94 million viewers till date. This step was initiated during the year 2007.
