Summers would be very hot in Chennai is a well known fact. Now, the weathermen have predicted that in this upcoming summer season the maximum temperatures would be 2 to 3 degrees celsius above the normal. It is also now revealed that the summer season could extend beyond May month.

The weathermen have sounded positively on the summer rains and they have mentioned that there would be more chances of heavy rains especially in May and this could be due to several atmospheric factors. Between March and May, the temp in the coastal districts in TN would be slightly above the normal. This was according to Mr. S. Balachandran, DDG of Meteorology. He added that the summer season might extend upto  June or July. There would be normal temperatures in the interior districts like Vellore, Salem, Trichy, Karur, Madurai, Virudhunagar etc.

In this month across TN, there would be mild rains and the rains would reduce the maximum temp especially in the interior districts. The maximum temp in places like Meenambakkam and Nungambakkam in the next few days would be 34 degrees Celius and 33 degrees Celsius respectively.

The northeasterlies were responsible for the reduction in the minimum temperatures in many TN districts in the last 2 months. It was later pointed out by a weather blogger that last year Chennai did not experience a temp increase in the summer season and factors like SW monsoon in Kerala plus the cyclonic circulation over the sea played their roles. Truth is that these factors were favourable for Chennai, Chengalpet and Thiruvallur etc.

The weather blogger spoke about how TN would receive rains in the second half of the summer. There is now soaring temperatures witnessed in Kerala  and Goa and this is due to the fact that the west coast has been witnessing easterlies now.
