Do you get breathing difficulty when you go out during the winter season, then don`t worry you are not alone!!

When we go out and feel the blast of chilly air on the face, then it means that the winter season has come. In the winter season, the air would be cold and dry and this would narrow the airways and cause irritation to the lungs. The moisture lining of our lower airways could be disrupted by the cold air and due to this it would evaporate faster than the normal. It is important to note that persons with respiratory diseases like asthma, bronchitis etc would face issues if they breathe chilly air outside. Not only in these persons sometimes in healthy persons too cold dry air could irritate lungs etc.

There are few ways to breathe easier in the cold weather.

By keeping face covered:
This is very important. When going out in the chilly weather, people must protect their face and dress warmly. By this, the air surrounding the nose would be warmed.

By breathing through nose:
When compared to the mouth, the nose acts as a great humidifier and nasal breathing would be preferable to mouth breathing. There are more chances of lowering breathlessness and tightness in the chest etc by covering the face plus breathing through the nose.

By avoiding intense outdoor exercises:
When we do exercises, the volume of air we breathe is more and we could face issues in breathing. It is essential to dress properly and drink enough water while doing intense activities.

By keeping ourselves hydrated:
The body will be able to protect the lungs from the environment by drinking water regularly or staying hydrated. It must be noted that the mucus would be less thick and less prone to get trapped. It is good to drink warm herbal tea or water etc. The airways would get relaxed by drinking teas like peppermint tea or chamomile tea etc.

By having a healthy indoor environment:
It is true that in the winter`s people would be staying at home mostly. In that case, it is essential to keep the indoor environment in the homes free from allergens etc as they could create issues in breathing. Using humidifiers to counter the dry air is also one superb method.

By using medications also:
Medications prescribed by the doctors to avoid issues in breathing during the winter season must be taken compulsorily and not to be ignored.
