As a low pressure would be forming today 17th November over the Bay of Bengal, there are possibilities of rains to increase from 20th of November onwards.

Mr. Senthamarai Kannan, director of Meteorological Research Centre in Chennai, issued a press release now. According to the release, due to the presence of atmospheric downward air circulation prevailing over Kerala moderate rains would occur on 17th, 18th and at a few places in TN, Puducherry and Karaikal regions. It added that a new low pressure area would be formed over south east Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea in the next 24 hours due to the upper atmospheric air circulation prevailing over the Andaman Sea today.

This might move west or north west in the next 2 days and would strengthen as a depression over south Bay of Bengal. From 20th Nov onwards there would be chances of increased or more rains. On 20th November, light to moderate rains would occur over most of the coastal districts and in few places over the interior districts in TN.

There would be heavy rains in one or two places in districts like Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chengalpet and Karaikal etc. Chennai and its suburbs would be cloudy for 2 days and there would be light fog in the mornings. Moderate rains would occur in one or two places in the city. Maximum rainfall of 12cm was recorded in Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district in the last 24 hours ending at 8:30am on 17th.
