The Indian Meteorological Department of IMD has informed that a new low pressure would be formed over the Bay of Bengal. An announcement has been issued by IMD and as per that variation in the speeds of westerlies would lead to moderate rains in few places in the state of TN, Puducherry and Karaikal today. There would be heavy rains in one or two places in the districts belonging to Coimbatore and The Nilgiris etc. Starting from tomorrow, there will be moderate rains in most districts in TN.
Today, in Chennai, the sky would remain cloudy and sometimes there would be moderate rains also. As the SW monsoon intensifies, a low pressure area will be formed tomorrow along the central west coast and northwest coast of Bay of Bengal. The low pressure would gain strength and it would bring heavy rains in north western states of Bay of Bengal.
There was maximum rainfall of 20cm in the Avalanchi belonging to the Nilgiris district and that was till yesterday morning. This was followed by Chikmagalur with 19cm rains, Dewala with 18cm rains, Melbhavai with 14cm rains etc. There was 9cm of rain in Tiruvannamalai district in TN.
It has been informed that the fishermen should not venture into the sea till 9th of August as strong winds are blowing now at speed of 60kmph in the Gulf of Mannar and Middle East and NE parts of Arabian Sea. Established in 1875 with headquarters located at New Delhi, IMD plays a huge role in meteorological observations, weather forecasting etc.
