The cyclone, named Asani, which formed over the Bay of Bengal INTENSIFIES: Places which will have heavy rains!

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that the cyclone named Asani;, developed over the Bay of Bengal, has intensified. Due to this, there are prospects for heavy rains in 15 districts in Tamil Nadu today (Monday, 9th May).

The low-pressure zone which formed over the Bay of Bengal intensified gradually and transformed into a cyclone on Sunday (8/5/2022) morning.  This cyclone was given the name ;Asani; by Sri Lanka. This cyclone is likely to intensify further and drift towards the Odisha Coast.  As such, fishermen have been given warning!

A low-pressure zone was formed over the South Andaman and its adjacent areas on Friday (6th May). This low-pressure format intensified and transformed into a depression zone on Saturday (7th May) and by afternoon it transformed into a depression zone.  This depression format prevailed over the South Bay of Bengal.

This depression zone drifted towards the northwest and transformed into a severe cyclone over the central-east Bay of Bengal.

This may drift towards the northwest direction and may intensify further as a strong cyclonic format.  This is likely to drift towards North Andhra-Odisha Coast and stabilise over there.  Then, it may further drift towards the North-Northeast direction over the Northwest Bay of Bengal near the Odisha Coast. Due to this, a warning has been issued to the fishermen until 12th May!

In the central Bay of Bengal, the Central-west Bay of Bengal, and the adjacent Northwest Bay of Bengal, high-speed winds at 105-115 kmph may blow across. Intermittently, there may be a blow of strong winds at 125 kmph.

Similarly, strong winds may blow across the Andhra coastal area at 40-50 kmph.

On 13th May, strong winds at 80-90 kmph are likely to blow across the northwest and the adjacent central Bay of Bengal.  Intermittently, strong winds may blow at 100 kmph. In the coastal Odisha and its adjacent North Andhra Coast, strong winds may blow over the ocean area at40-50 kmph and intermittently at 60 kmph. Fishermen are warned NOT to venture into the ocean area.
