The heavy rains in Chennai have flooded many places like Mudichur, Semmenchery Guduvanchery, Urapakkam, Medavakkam and Tambaram etc. The EB or electricity board has cut off the power supply in these inundated places in Chennai. Power supply was not for more than 12 hours and residents in these places suffered badly. The reason for the electricity board to cut off power supply was to prevent electrocution.

From Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning, there was no power supply. This was brought out by a Guduvancheri based resident. He spoke about how there was no water in the overhead tank and how the streets were flooded due to heavy rains.

According to a senior officer belonging to Tangedco, southern suburbs were severely affected by heavy rains and heavy flooding in these places has led to power cuts. He added that power supply was cut off in places like Mudichur, Guduvanchery,Medavakkam and Semmenchery etc due to flooding. Unless the water level comes back to normal, power supply would not be restored in these places. Central Chennai as well as North Chennai was inundated due to very heavy rains in the previous week and the power supply was cut off. Point is that power supply is being restored in west Mambalam areas now and if the level of water is over the junction boxes then power supply would be suspended.

It must be noted that residents belonging to T. Nagar residential complex demanded compensation from the government towards the expenses after spending few lakhs to pump out rain water from their compound.
