The doctors clinics in Chennai are full of patients now!!

Chennai city received a huge amount of rain in recent times and it grabbed the attention of many. In the last 3 days, many people were queuing outside the clinics of Chennai doctors because of the fact that many have got affected with new diseases including flu, stomach and respiratory infections, viral conjunctivitis etc. According to some doctors, kids and elderly require in-patient care.

The officials confirmed that over the last 2 weeks in Chennai the fever clinics organised by GCC witnessed many water borne issues like diarrhoea etc. It was brought out by city health officer Dr. M. Jagadeesan that flu like symptoms such as fever, cough etc were seen in some patients and others had diarrhoea with acute gastritis symptoms. Such symptoms were expected as it was the fever season in Chennai.

No data has been released till now by the GCC on the number of patients with fever cases and patients were being treated as outpatients. It is learnt that the doctors prescribe medicines and advise them to drink boiled water. Patients must be careful if they have stomach flu or diarrhoea. The hospitals in the neighbourhoods have been receiving complaints regarding cluster apartments belonging to places like Alwarpet, Mylapore and K.K. Nagar etc. The doctors were of the opinion that these could be due to gastroenteritis or cholera etc.

According to Dr. Subramaniam Swaminathan, Gleneagles Global Hospitals it was clear that several neighbouring states have Norovirus cases and therefore extreme vigil must be there. Point is that bouts of vomiting and diarrhoea are present in those with Norovirus and this infectious disease could affect anyone if they have direct contact with the infected person. Transmission of the disease to the person could be possible even when the person consumes contaminated food and water etc or when he or she touches the contaminated surface etc.

Viral conjunctivitis is on the rise now in Chennai and eye doctors have been treating many now. The symptoms such as redness and eye irritation etc would last for even 10 days and this was mentioned by Dr. S. Soundari, senior ophthalmologist.
