Information regarding the revival of Chennai Sangamam

Chennai residents would not have forgotten the Chennai Sangamam festival that used to be sensational during Pongal seasons.
In the previous DMK regime, Chennai Sangamam a week long cultural programme showcased Tamil folk arts in the Pongal season and it made sensational news.
Now, this Chennai Sangamam would be revived and it is said that this annual folk arts festival would be organised in this upcoming pongal season. From 2011 onwards, this Chennai Sangamam did not take place is well known to us. Ever since the new DMK government started to function, the clamour from the civil society for reviving this festival grew louder.
It must be noted that just a few days back many folk artists met Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi and discussed reviving the Chennai Sangamam festival. Truth is that she has given assurance about taking this issue to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
It was mentioned by Mr Chandramohan, principal secretary, tourism department that in the upcoming Pongal season there might be a possibility of conducting a folk arts festival. He added that strict Covid-19 protocols would be followed without fail.
According to Kanimozhi, MP, it was clear that the folk artists and public were keen on reviving the Chennai Sangamam event.
