It rained very heavily last week in Chennai and in Tamil Nadu and now things have become a little bright.

Director of Area Cyclone Warning Centre, Mr. N. Puviarasan mentioned that the low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea now lies over southeast Bay of Bengal. The cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8km above the mean sea level. This would move westwards and reach west central and adjoining south west Bay of Bengal off south AP- north TN coasts on Thursday 18th November.

He then added that at some isolated places in the district of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram etc would have heavy to very heavy rains with thunderstorms. On Wednesday, districts of Ranipet, Salem, Chengalpet, Ariyalur, Perambalur and delta districts would witness heavy rains and thunderstorms. The RMC has issued a red alert to the districts like Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpet and Ranipet regarding extremely heavy rains on 18th November.

For the next 4 to 5 days, there would be heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and after that only the intensity of rainfall would reduce. Against the normal rainfall of 29cm, TN had already recorded 49cm of rain. Against the normal of 49cm of rain, Chennai has already recorded 82 cm of rainfall. It is now brought to light that normal rainfall would be there till the month of December.

As there would be cyclonic storms of speeds 40kmph to 50kmph, the fishermen have been asked not to go into the sea. On some occasions, the cyclonic storms would even touch 60kmph.
