Depression zone over the Bay of Bengal!

A cyclonic format is likely to be developed over the upper layers of the atmosphere over the central area of the South Bay of Bengal.

This cyclonic format will drift towards the west and will transform into a depression zone in the next 48 hours.

Due to this, there are prospects of heavy rain tomorrow (Wednesday, 27th October) in a few places in the 7 districts including Thirunelveli and Thoothukkudi.

In this regard, the Director of the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre, N. Puviyarasan shared on Monday (25th October):

“A cyclonic format is likely to develop in the upper layers of the atmosphere over the central part of the South Bay of Bengal. This will drift towards the west and will transform into a depression zone in the next 48 hours. Due to this, there are prospects for heavy rain with thunder  tomorrow (Wednesday, 27th October) in a few parts of the 7 districts Thirunelveli, Thoothukkudi, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Thenkasi, and Kanyakumari,

There are prospects for mild rain with thunder in several places in the districts adjacent to the Western Ghat Mountain Rangeland prospects for mild rain in several places in the northern coastal districts and Puducherry and Karaikkal.

28th & 29th October: There are prospects for heavy rains with thunder on 28th & 29th October in a few places in the 7 delta districts, Pudhukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, and Cuddalore, Puducherry & Karaikkal.

In the interior districts, there are prospects for widespread medium rain with thunder in the interior districts and prospects for widespread mild to medium rain in the districts adjacent to the Western Ghat Mountain Range.

Warning to fishermen

There are prospects for high-speed winds blowing at 40 kmph to 50 kmph, sometimes even at 60 kmph in the central part of the South Bay of Bengal. Hence, the fishermen are WARNED NOT TO VENTURE INTO THE SEA in these areas on 28th & 29th October.”
