The high number of deaths due to Covid-19 infection has been worrying many now in TN. In the meeting that took place between the CM of Tamil Nadu Mr. M.K. Stalin and senior officials yesterday the chief minister were advised to extend the curbs in view of the high number of deaths that has been reported daily inspite of a drop in the number of fresh cases.

The lockdown is scheduled to end on 14th June 2021 and it is believed that the CM might extend the lockdown by one more week. The tally remains high despite the number of positive cases having been reduced in TN when compared to the first infection wave. What is more shocking is that the fatality rate is very high even now. The source from the Secretariat has mentioned that the officials recommended the lockdown to be extended by one week in TN.

The daily count Covid-19 cases is still higher in TN than in India now as the second infection wave has hit TN badly. It must be taken into note that in the last week of lockdown TN was split into two zones where 27 districts with lesser cases were in one group and 11 districts with more cases in another group. In these 11 districts belonging to western to delta regions of TN with more cases no relaxations have been provided whereas for the 27 districts with less number of cases relaxations have been given.

It has been pointed out by the sources that the officials recommended the chief minister to continue with the grouping of districts and continue restrictions for 11 districts with high number of Covid-19 cases. More relaxations have been recommended in the meeting for the remaining 27 districts with lesser cases. Various suggestions made were opening private companies with limited staffs, opening of parks for morning walks, etc.
