Chennai residents can now breathe a little easy as the number of containment zones has reduced!!

Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC had mentioned that in Chennai currently the containment zones have gone down below 100. It must not be forgotten that on 24th May 2021, the number of containment zones in Chennai (streets with more than 10 Covid-19 cases) was 765 totally and on 31st May there were as many as 365 containment zones in Chennai. By 7th of June 2021, the number of containment zones in Chennai fell to 81.

This has clearly shown that the rapid spread of the Covid-19 infection has reduced to a huge extent in Chennai. It is learnt that the number of active cases has also fallen from 4400 to 2100.

It has been pointed out by some sources from GCC that these numbers justify reduction in the lockdown restrictions in Chennai. In the end, a final call would be taken by the chief minister of TN.

An official later spoke about how now the focus of GCC would be to ensure regular infrastructure works are restarted. The information collected is that the Covid care centres would be prepared if there is any sudden increase in the number of cases.

In the last one week of time, zones 6 to 10 belonging to the central region and zones 11 to 15 from the southern region have recorded an 80% reduction in the number of containment zones.

North regions consisting of zones 1to 5 have recorded just 67% reduction in the number of containment zones. The highest number of containment zones is now present in the central region of Chennai with as many as 35. Truth is that south as well as north has23 containment zones each.

The superb piece of information is that just like last week not even one of the 200 wards in Chennai city have got more than 20 containment zones now. What is even more astonishing is the fact that 146 wards do not have even a single containment zone. This has once again proved that the Coronavirus spread has been reduced in Chennai.

There were 3 streets that reported 40 or more cases last week in Chennai but now just 6 streets have 20 or more cases. As many as 27 Coronavirus cases each are present now in K.K. Nagar based AP Patro Salai and Sadayankuppam village in Manali zone. Thoraipakkam based Soolama Nagar has 26 cases now.
