In the last 50 days in Chennai, test positivity rate or TPR has fallen by more than half to 12%. This has been spoken in high esteem by many now. It is known that TPR in Chennai rose at an alarming rate till now and it worried many. The number of fresh or new Covid-19 cases has gone below 4000 now (with the same number of samples tested every day) in the last few weeks of time.

The data from the Chennai Corporation revealed that on 26th May TPR was 12.1% (out of a total of 29460 samples tested 3561 were positive). On Thursday, 27th May 2021, the same numbers of samples were tested and just 2779 tested positive.

On 10th and on 11th April, TPR in Chennai was 13.9% and 13.45 respectively. The TPR went to 23.8% on 26th April and this shocked many. After remaining stagnant till 9th May, TPR then rose to 26.6% on 10th of May 2021. Now, the number of active Coronavirus cases has come down in Chennai and this has been due to the fall in TPR and less daily fresh cases.

From the highest of 49236 active cases on 22nd May, the active cases in Chennai have now come down to 43 624.

Mr. Gagandeep Singh, Chennai corporation commissioner in his letter has thanked all the doctors working for GCC for playing their role in controlling Covid-19 in Chennai city. He had mentioned about the dip in the number of cases now in Chennai. He assured that the efforts would remain the same in the coming few weeks also. By this, GCC would be able to manage the second Covid-19 infection wave effectively. It must be taken into account that yesterday at Ripon Buildings 80 oxygen concentrators were handed over by DMK MLAS and Central Chennai MP Mr. Dayanithi Maran.
