Recently, the TN government made sensational news when it announced that the students belonging to the classes 9 to 11 would be promoted to higher classes without any examination or all pass. Now, there is some confusion prevailing in the schools regarding the calculation of the marks for these all pass students of classes 9 to 11.

It is said that the TN government might conduct a computer based test for these students especially for the state run schools for allocating marks based on their performance.

It must not be forgotten that in the last year when board examinations were cancelled for the class 10 students due to Coronavirus pandemic marks were calculated based on their attendance plus on the performance in quarterly and half yearly exams. In this year, even after the reopening of the schools, attendance was not made compulsory for the students.

Point is that the teachers were busy in completing the portions for the board exam students and due to this most schools have not conducted any revision tests for the students. However, few private schools in the cities in TN have conducted revision tests. It was brought out by a senior officer belonging to the school education department that the authorities were discussing about conducting computer based exams at the computer labs of state run schools. It is known that the TN government would be announcing the guidelines for calculating the marks.

Feedback was issued by the parents, teachers and academicians about conducting a test to calculate marks and the TN government’s move to conduct a computer based test was got from the feedback.

The official mentioned that the computer based test could be attended by the students at their respective schools itself. Information is that the private schools would be instructed to conduct test on their own and give the marks to the government for the sake of preparing the mark list.

Earlier computer based tests were conducted by the government schools in TN for assessing the students knowledge is well known to us. Now, the same objective type test would be adopted in the new test too.
