Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre - heavy rain alert to 5 districts in Tamil Nadu!

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects for heavy rains in a few places in the districts of Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Ranippettai, Thirupathur, and Salem.

With sudden heavy downpour in the Chennai Metro City and its suburbs, the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects for heavy rains in the next 24 hours due to the cyclonic format prevailing in the western winds.

With the heavy non-monsoon-seasonal rains in the month of January, with whole agricultural fields of crops and grown plants being submerged in the unexpected rain, many farmers were put to great hardship. Subsequently, there was the untimely heavy snowing and to be followed by another round of unexpected and non-seasonal heavy rains again!

There were widespread rains throughout the Chennai Metro City and its suburbs on Friday night (19th February). Due to this, there were widespread power-cut in several areas. There was medium rain in some Chennai Metro City areas including Koyambedu, Nungambakkam, and Vadapalani at 1.00 AM during the night!

There were light rains in the areas of Sriperumpudhur and its surrounding areas Friday evening followed by heavy rains in the night session. As such, the streets in the city were flooded. Especially, the vehicle drivers moving on the Chennai Metro City-Bengaluru National Highway were put to great hardships.

Along with the unexpected heavy rains, power also was cut putting the Sriperumpudhur residents to extreme hardship with the daily routine lifestyle being thoroughly affected!

It rained quite heavily in the Perambalur district Veppanthaai area and its surroundings - Annamangalam, Arasalur, Thondamaanthurai, Koraiyaru, and Malayalappatti.Because of this, the rice grains stored in the Rice procurement centres in the villages Annamangalam and Thondamanthurai were exposed to the rains.

There were very heavy rains in Salem City and its surroundings of Ayodhippattanam, Aathur, Kongavalli, and Thalaivaasal and all the low-lying areas in these regions were flooded affecting the normal life-routine of the local citizens.

The Rains which started by Friday night in the district of Thiruvannamalai District Aarani and surrounding areas lasted till today morning (Sunday, 21st February).

There were light rains in the areas of Kannamangalam, Kolathur, and Ganasamudhiram. It rained heavily in Tirupur, Dindigul District Natham and the surrounding areas.

In this situation, the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that due to the cyclonic format prevailing in the upper layers of the westerly winds, there are prospects for a heavy rain 1 or 2 places in Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Ranippettai, Thirupathur, and Salem district and there are prospects for mild rain with lightning and thunder in 1 or 2 places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Sunday (today, 21st February)

As regards the Chennai Metro City, the sky may remain rather cloudy for the next 48 hours. The maximum temperature will be 30 Degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature will be 23 Degrees Celsius.
