Very rare rains in February in Chennai - Night temp different from usual

The days are hotter and the nights are cooler now in Chennai. This has been due to the easterly winds that extended the NE monsoon season to the first half of January.

The residents belonging to Chennai would have felt this January much warmer than in the previous years. The lowest night temperature of 20.8 degrees Celsius was recorded on 18th January and this was the highest recorded in the last 10 years. In the coming days, Chennai is likely to have a slow increase in the temperatures and this was as per the forecast by some IMD officials. The weather bloggers were of the view that Chennai city and some parts of TN might experience some rains in February which would be very rare.

Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, RMC Chennai, Mr N. Puviarasan pointed out that peak winter for Chennai is between 25th December and 25th January and it is over. He added that from now on the temperatures would only increase. The city of Chennai is likely to be partly cloudy for the next 2 days with shallow fog or mist in the early mornings.

Chennai is likely to have maximum temperature around 32 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature around 22 degrees Celsius.
