Schools reopening in Chennai - Parents relieved, students happy after meeting their friends

Meeting the classmates and teachers after a long time is a special feeling, ask the students of classes 10 and 12.

The long delay in the reopening of the schools due to Covid-19 pandemic has come to an end on Tuesday, 19th January 2021!!

For more than 10 months, schools have been closed in Chennai and in TN to control the spread of Coronavirus pandemic. The schools reopened once again for the classes 10 and 12 yesterday.

In many schools, the students went to the classes with huge interest and happiness following Covid-19 SOPs.

The students expressed their feelings regarding reopening. A student of class 12 belonging to a private school in Pammal spoke about how happy she was after meeting her friends and teachers in her school after a long time. She said that she is more confident now than before.

The online classes have been going at full speeds for these students and many students and parents found online classes difficult. The reopening of schools has brought huge happiness and relief on the faces of many parents now as the students need not depend on the online classes. The students as well as the teachers were allowed to enter the classrooms after sanitising their hands and after getting a temperature check.

For the sake of boosting the immunity of the students, vitamin and zinc tablets were distributed in the schools. One student was allowed to sit on a bench in most schools and including self financing institutions also. To make sure that all SOPs are being followed in the schools and in the classrooms, a team of education officers in each district inspected the schools.

As per an official it was clear that more than 80% of attendance was reported in many state run schools. In many schools in southern districts of TN, more than 90% attendance has been reported.

According to the principal of Vaels International School in Chennai, S. Sujatha, the presence of students at the school campus has brought back life. The amazing information revealed by the principal was out of a total of 63 students of class 10 as many as 60 students came to the classes. The student of class 10 of this school spoke about how it was a huge relief after being stuck at home for many months.

After reopening, the school had organised orientation classes for the students, parents etc. This was pointed out by the principal of Vels Vidyashram School. She added that the teachers were given instructions about allowing students one at a time to prevent crowding at entry and at the exit. Most of the private institutions reported more than 95% attendance and this was according to Mr. Nandhakumar, general secretary, TN Nursery, Primary, Matriculation, Higher Secondary and CBSE Schools Association.
