The NE monsoon is likely to retreat in a couple of days as per the early estimates. This was mentioned by the IMD in the social media post. The IMD has stated that the conditions are becoming favourable for the NE monsoons over TN around 19th January. If this happens then a new record would be set in Tn. This was mentioned by some weather bloggers. It must be recalled that the 1985 monsoons withdrew on 17th January 1986 and 1994 monsoons withdrew from north coastal TN on 19tb January 1995.

Chennai weather blogger Mr. Pradeep john was of the view that this above said record might be broken this time. This blogger runs the page Tamil Nadu Weatherman is known to us. There would be dry weather in TN for the next 72 hours and this was as per some officials belonging to the meteorological department.

According to Mr. N. Puviarasan, director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, RMC, Chennai, dry weather is expected across TN till 20th of January 2021. This would be under the influence of cyclonic circulation over the South Arabian Sea extending up to Comarin. Isolated places in southern parts of TN would receive light rainfall and the northern parts of TN would have dry weather on 21st January.
