Now, important places in and around Chennai are getting reopened again for the public!!

After being closed for around 9 months, Mamallapuram or Mahabalipuram was reopened again for the public on Monday. On the first day after it was reopened, 1000 tourists visited this great historical place.

It must be taken into note that the number of visitors on day one was about 40percent of the entries that were recorded on the weekdays during the pre-Covid times.

It must be recalled that before the Coronavirus pandemic this important place was visited by 2000 to 3000 people every day. It is well known that this place near Chennai is a heritage site of UNESCO. Regarded as one of the best tourist sites in India, Mamallapuram has got 7th and 8th century Hindu group of monuments. It must not be forgotten that this place was one of the 2 major port cities belonging to the Pallava kingdom.

Beginning from 9am in the morning, the visitors started to come to Mamallapuram to see the heritage site and the crowds began to increase after noon time. Thermal scanning was done on the persons who entered the Shore Temple, Five Rathas, Krishna Butterball and Tiger Caves. Later, their tickets were scanned and they were allowed inside.

It is now expected by the Archaeological Survey of India that the number of entries would increase in the weekends. The Covid19 infection has been cited as the reason for the cap on the entry with the upper limit of 2000individuals every day.
