A new post Data Entry Operator created TN for State Govt Depts

A new post, ‘Date Entry Operator’ is to be created for all Departments of the State Government of Tamil Nadu. With this, there are bright prospects for job opportunities for candidates with typing and computer training.
Generally, several cadres are employed in the Group ‘C’ cadre in various Departments of the State Government of Tamil Nadu in posts such as Typists, Stenographers, Junior Assistants, etc. The typists undertake the tasks of maintaining the office-documents, typing the various government orders and letters, etc. This job was earlier done on typewriters and it is now done on computers Thus the entire documentation is maintained by the typists on computers.
In the central government departments, this job has been devised exclusively as ‘Data Entry Operator’ and recruitments for these posts are carried out. However, in the Departments of the State Government of Tamil Nadu, the job category continues as ‘typists’ since last few decades though there are no typewriters in the offices! The academic qualification for this cadre has been fixed as a pass in the 10th Standard, a pass in the Higher Grade/Lower Grade of typing in English and Tamil.
Besides, it is mandatory for the candidates to have the Certificate issued by the Tamil Nadu Technical Education Council. Whereas the candidates may apply and get recruited for the posts of typists still, they need to complete the course and get this certificate before their probation gets completed.
In this scenario, the State Government of Tamil Nadu has decided to create a new post – ‘Data Entry Operator’. Reliable state government Department circles inform that the basic academic qualification for this post has been fixed as the candidates must be graduates, a pass in the higher grade in English and Tami typing, and a certificate as Data Entry Operator having attended a course offered by approved computer organisations.
Meanwhile, in the Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission, the post of ‘Data Entry Operator’ has been created. The Secretary of the State Government of Tamil Nadu for Public Affairs has recently released an order regarding this after making the necessary revisions in the Rules and Regulations.
As regards the Central Government Date Entry Operator job, the candidates must have passed +2, and the skill to enter 8000 strokes (Key depressions) on the computer in an hour. It may be noted that once the candidates pass the written examination, they will be tested for the above skill in computer typing.
