Prospects for commencement of Northeast monsoon rainy season in Tamil Nadu on 28th October!

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre Head S. Balachandran informed that there are prospects for the commencement of the northeast monsoon rainy season in Tamil Nadu by 28th October.

Normally, the northeast monsoon rainy season in Tamil Nadu State commences by the 3rd week of October. This year, however, there has been a delay in the commencement of the northeast monsoon rainy season.

The Head of the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre S. Balachandran informed the press reporters:

For 2 days (today 24th October & tomorrow 25th October), there are prospects for mild to medium rain in a few places in northern districts and Puducherry and in 1 or 2places in the southern districts.

With the prospects of the winds blowing from the northeast and eastern direction in the lower layers of the atmosphere over the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Andhra and the adjacent areas of Bay of Bengal, there are prospects for the northeast monsoon rainy season to commence around 28th October (Wednesday) in Tami Nadu, Puducherry, South Andhra, Rayalaseema, and south Karnataka areas.

Presently, there is a low-pressure zone formed and also the western winds. The low-pressure zone has been drifting. Once it ends up over the North Bay of Bengal Region, it will transform further to intensify on 25th & 26th October leading to blowing of winds and start of rains on 27th & 28th of October.

As regards the northeast monsoon rainy season, it has been estimated as a forecast on the monsoon season that it would be as usual in the northern districts of Tami Nadu and would be lesser than usual in the southern districts.

As at 8.30 AM yesterday (Friday, 23rd October) in the previous 24 hours, the rainfall recorded in cm in various places:

Palippattu 17, Ramakrishnaraju pettai 13, Thamaraippakkam, Sriperumpudhur 11,  Thiruthani- 9, Madhranthagam, Chennai Nungambakkam, Uthiramerur, Gummidipundi, and Vembakkam 7, Thiruvaalankadu, Shoinganallur, Cheyyur, Arkonam, Senkundram 6, Ponneri, Aandur, Chennai Airport, Kanchipuram, Kenambakkam, Kaverippakkam, and Perambur 5.
