The offices have been operating in full flow now in the state of Tamil Nadu after the lockdown restrictions were removed by the TN government. The problem now is the air-conditioned offices have become Covid-19 clusters in TN.

The lack of adequate ventilation mainly in the departmental stores, jewellery shops, clothing shops etc have resulted in faster spread of the Coronavirus infection now. It is well known that these places have high footfall.

After a formal gathering of around 50 persons, a corporate office in Chennai reported more than 20 Coronavirus positive cases. Likewise in Coimbatore, in the August first week, a jewellery shop had more than 10 cases. It has been brought out by former public health director Dr. K. Kolandaisamy that lack of ventilation would increase the spread of Covid-19 infection.

He explained that now there is relaxation in the restrictions and 100 % workforce has been allowed to work in the offices. Hence, it is necessary that the management must keep the ventilation system under constant check.

As per few Chennai based corporate managers it was clear that there was a spike in the Coronavirus infection cases at the workplaces and due to this many corporate offices have asked the employees to work from home itself now.

It was mentioned by some senior officials belonging to the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine that contact tracing and testing of close contacts would be compulsory if there are positive cases at the work spots. The offices must follow SOP and for that the officials have been keeping a check on the offices.

It must be remembered that earlier Dr. Prabhdeep Kaur, deputy director, National Institute of Epidemiology, had warned that many workplace clusters were getting reported. She also threw light on the importance of wearing facemasks and maintaining social distancing.
