Proposed private trains to operate from Tambaram and Chennai Central

The officials have revealed that Chennai Central and Tambaram would be the 2 proposed terminals from where the private trains would be operated. A senior railway official made it clear that Tondiarpet would be the maintenance yard for such trains.
According to Mr. John Thomas, GM of Southern Railways, the place where the maintenance yard would be set for the private train operators is decided and it would be mostly Tondiarpet yard. He then mentioned that Tambaram and Chennai Central were among the proposed terminals for the operations of the private trains.
Important information is apart from these above said 2 terminals in Chennai, terminals have been proposed for origin and termination of services of proposed trains. They are Pondicherry, Trichy, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari,Kochuveli, Ernakulam, Mangalore and Coimbatore junctions.
The TN state government does not have any objection to the commencement of the suburban train services. This was brought out by Mr. John Thomas. Fact is operations of the suburban trains have not started anywhere in India and the decision to begin the suburban train services would be taken by the ministry of railways in association with the ministries of home and urban development.
Unreserved passengers were not yet allowed and all trains were only reserved. A decision about this would be taken in the coming days by the authorities. It is important to note that the third line between suburban Tambaram and Chengalpet would be completed by March in 2021.
The general manager later revealed that as many as 573 coaches were modified into Covid-19 isolation wards and none of the coaches were utilised by the southern railway. According to the protocol, the coaches were to be used only when the TN state government had exhausted all their quarantine facilities. Truth is the need to use the coaches has not come yet.
