New Coronavirus wave in the winter season warns experts

Posted on: 05/Sep/2020 9:05:42 AM
The Coronavirus infection would not be ending any time soon and there might be a new wave in the upcoming winter season.

The virus could thrive in the drier and cooler air in the winter season. The Coronavirus pandemic began in Wuhan province in China and it has spread across the globe now. Now, China is not reporting any new case and this has stunned many.

Information collected is as the flu season sets in there might be a number of false negatives or false positives. Countries all over are trying to revive their economies now is known.

In the northern hemisphere, when the seasons change, there would be a surge in the Coronavirus infection cases. The truth is respiratory illnesses would thrive in the cooler weather conditions.

It is common knowledge that in the winters people tend to stay in their homes cooped up together when ventilation is less and social distancing would not be there.

According to an associate professor of microbiology, Dr. Simon Clarke belonging to the University of Reading, it is not an unreasonable hypothesis to think that Coronavirus infection would get worse in the winter season. There is now a feeling among the experts belonging to John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health that Covid-19 would make the upcoming flu season worse.

The health systems are strained already by the Covid-19 infection and when the flu season rolls around additional strain would be added to those systems. This was revealed by a postdoctoral microbiology scholar at the Diaz- Munoz lab of University of California.

He spoke about how we could see more flu or Covid-19 cases than we think because the tests commonly used for SARS-CoV-2 have high false negative rates. It must be noted that their reliability could vary depending on the type of sample taken. Various sample types are swab, saliva and sputum.
