The health officials in Chennai are now concerned about the overcrowding of the attendants or relatives of the Coronavirus patients at the government hospitals. It has been pointed out by some experts that these attendants have become common carriers of the Covid-19 infection.

For the sake of checking their family members and loved ones, scores of relatives have been visiting the Covid-19 wards in the government hospitals in Chennai now. By this, there is a huge risk of the infection affecting them.

The doctors at the RGGGH in Chennai expressed their views. They spoke about how there are lots of anxious attendants of Covid-19 infection patients and suspected cases thronging the wards.

According to dean of RGGGH, Dr. E. Theranirajan, the attendants crowd outside the hospital, inside the premises of Covid-19ward and near the emergency out of anxiety. On the basis of humanitarian grounds, the attendants of the critical Covid-19 patients were allowed with PPE kit to see the patient.

He explained that despite many strict instructions and other arrangements in place to get the updates on the patients, the attendants come to the hospital regularly. In case of any requirement, the kin of the Covid-19 patients are called or updated on any health status.

He concluded that managing the attendants is very tough. Point is seating arrangement has been arranged for the attendants so that they do not insist on entering the ward.

The barricades have been set up and strict instructions have been issued to all the visitors. This has been brought to light by some authorities belonging to the Omandurar Government General Hospital and KMCH.

By visiting the Covid-19 patients frequently, the attendants might also get infected with Coronavirus and it would be a huge relief for the hospital authorities if the relatives were aware of this truth. This was as per Dr. Balaji, dean of SMCH, Chennai.
