Chennai city to get more rains- Upper air cyclonic circulation

Posted on: 12/Aug/2020 10:05:34 AM
On Tuesday evening, rains in many places took many Chennai residents by surprise.

Over the next 24 hours, there would be light to moderate rains in some places in the Chennai city and this was predicted by the weathermen. The condition of the sky is likely to be partly cloudy and this was according to the RMC Chennai. There would be light to moderate rains with thunderstorms in some places.

For the next 24 hours, the maximum temperature would be around 35 Degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature would be around 26 degrees Celsius. Many localities in Chennai such as Kodungaiyur, Perambur, Choolaimedu, Anna Nagar, Aminjikarai, Ambattur, Avadi, Nungambakkam, Vadapalani, Saligramam, Ashok Nagar and KK. Nagar received rainfall.

At around 8pm in the evening, the rains started and it lasted for 20 to 30 minutes in some places. At around 10pm, few places received a second spell of rain for less than 10 minutes. The upper air cyclonic circulation has triggered the rains in Chennai. It is known that this was swirling wind motion due to the low pressure area near the coast.

It has been brought to light by IMD’s regional weather inference that that there has been merging of the cyclonic circulation (observed on Monday over southwest Bay of Bengal off TN cast at 7.6km above mean sea level) with the east-west shear zone that runs across central India between 5.8km to 7.6km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height.

Information is precursor to a low pressure is the east-west shear zone and it changes in the direction of wind from easterly to westerly. This east-west shear would get monsoon rains active again. This has been as per some weather experts. Around 13th August, a low pressure area is likely to form over northwest Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhoods.
