Residents belonging to Chennai would have been familiar with the busy streets in places like T. Nagar, Purasawalkam and Anna Nagar. Many shops are present in these places and people come to busy things. To contain the spread of Coronavirus infection in Chennai, the shops were shut down in these places.

Now, the business activities have started one again in full flow and the buzz is back. Point is that the footfalls have been increasing slowly with every passing month. There are full of shoppers on the staircases leading to the showrooms of the retail chain majors in T. Nagar.

It must be noted that T. Nagar is Chennai city’s largest retail hub that usually registers an annual turnover of Rs 50,000 crores and Ranganathan Street here is the busiest. It has been estimated by some traders that in Pondy Bazaar, 50 percent of the customers have come back and others had 25 percent walk-ins. The relaxation in the restrictions in Chennai city has resulted in many people going out shopping now in August. The businesses have picked up now.

It was brought to light by a sales in-charge of a leading apparel shop in Anna Nagar that the conversion rate of the number of walk-ins has increased. He added that before Coronavirus infection 15% walk-ins resulted in business and now it is 40%.

The business has standardised and this has been mentioned by some small and middle level shopkeepers. A furniture showroom owner spoke about how there are many customers who are scared of Covid-19 infection.
