COVID count in Chennai goes below 1000 for the first time

On Friday, 7th August 2020, the fresh or new Coronavirus count in Chennai city went below 1000 for the first time after a period of 52 days. This has now made many to sit up and take notice.

It was later brought out by a state health bulletin that hotspot reported as many as 984 cases and there were 1103 who have been recorded from the infection.

The number of active cases in 6 out of the total 15 zones of GCC has dropped to 10% of the total cases reported. It must be noted that in the north Chennai Manali zone had 77 active cases and it was just 4% of the active caseload.

Chennai city has a fatality rate very high and it is 2.12% and the Teynampet zone has the highest death rate and is 3.02%. This Teynampet zone is an important zone in GCC and it has many senior citizens plus those with co-morbid conditions.

It is shocking to mention here that on Friday, TN recorded as many as 119 deaths for a single day and this has been the highest till now. This took the number of deaths in TN to 4,690. Truth is the case count in TN touched 2,85,024. There were 58,00 plus new infections and 52,759 active cases.

It is known that on 3rd June 2020, the number of fresh or new COVID-19 cases in Chennai went above 1000 for the first time. On 2nd June 2020, the number of cases was 816.

There were as many as 2393 fresh Coronavirus cases n 30th June and it corresponded to more than 60 percent of the 3943 fresh cases in the entire TN. Many zones belonging to GCC have managed to bring down the number of active COVID-19 cases to less than 10 percent
