Going to the private labs and getting tested for the Coronavirus infection might not be that easy for those Chennai residents who want to get tested voluntarily. Truth is the fear of getting this infection might prevent them. The GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation has put huge efforts now to provide a solution for this.

For those who fear the exposure of Coronavirus infection and those who are willing to undergo voluntary tests can feel relieved now.  Point is GCC has opened walk-in centres to collect the samples from the residents.

As per an official belonging to GCC, in the past, samples for testing were taken only if they were found to be contacts of the infected persons or recommended by the field officials. He highlighted that anyone now could go to the sample collection centres to provide their swabs for testing.

He added that GCC was not collecting swabs from the voluntary persons earlier. Now, there are as many a s37 sample collection centres run by the civic body and those who want to test their swab samples could go to these centres to give their samples for testing. Address plus the contact details must be provided at these walk-in testing centres.

It is common knowledge that GCC has been changing the testing strategy depending on the need plus situation and this has been ever since the Coronavirus infection started in Chennai.

All the contacts of the infected patients were tested in the initial stages of the pandemic. In addition, testing was also done on those who lived close to the house of Covid-19 affected persons. Only if there was any symptom, the family members and contacts were tested is known.

It must be noted that apart from testing symptomatic contacts GCC has also been testing those with symptoms identified during door-to-door surveys and in the fever camps.
