This news would bring some cheers on those who live in the north and south areas of Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC.

It is known that the number of Coronavirus cases has gone above 1 lakh in Chennai city. In spite of this, the north and south areas of GCC do not have any containment areas.

The 56 containment areas were present mostly in all the 5 zones belonging to the central area of Chennai city and this was on yesterday. There are 1,511 active cases in the Kodambakkam zone and this zone has 18 containment zones.

Ambattur and Anna Nagar has 17 and 16 containment zones respectively. Truth is the Ambattur zone has 1,307 active cases and Anna Nagar zone has 1,327 active cases. There are 3 containment zones in Teynampet and 1 in Thiru Vi- Ka- Nagar.

It must not be forgotten that on 18th June, Chennai had as many as 64 containment zones and most of them were located in central Chennai. Fact is when the Coronavirus pandemic began in March in Chennai north Chennai had more number of Coronavirus cases. Many streets were converted into containment zones in north Chennai.

There are now 12,436 active Coronavirus cases in Chennai city and as many as 6,050 are from the central Chennai zone. As a part of the cluster containment plan, the Chennai Corporation is converting the areas and streets with a huge number of Coronavirus active cases. In the past, the Chennai Corporation was sealing the entire street that had one of two cases.

Now, if a lesser number of Coronavirus gets reported then just the houses/ buildings get sealed and the strategy has been changed. It is worthy to note that if the streets stop reporting fresh or new COVID-19 positive cases then the GCC would remove the restrictions in the containment zones.
