Prospects for heavy rains in 7 districts in Tamil Nadu today (29th July)!

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects for heavy rains with thunder in 1 or 2 places in 7 districts of Tamil Nadu Nilgiri, Coimbatore, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Madurai, and Sivagangai de to the cyclonic formats existing in the upper layers of the atmosphere.

The official from the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre explained regarding this:

There is a cyclonic format prevailing in the upper layers of the atmosphere over the southwest and the adjacent southeast part of the Bay of Bengal. It is expected that this cyclonic format will prevail on the southwest Bay of Bengal today (Wednesday, 29th July). Due to this, there are prospects of widespread mild to medium rains in the Tamil Nadu districts located south and the interior districts.

As regards heavy rains, there are prospects for heavy rains with thunder in 1 or 2 places in the 7 districts of Nilgiri, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Madurai, and Sivagangai and prospects of very heavy rains in the districts of Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, and Thenkasi.

As regards the Chennai Metro City, the sky will remain partly cloudy. There are prospects for mild rain in a few areas of the city.

Rainfalls recorded: As at 8.30 AM n Tuesday (28th July) in the last 24 hours, the rainfalls recorded in mm in various places: Coimbatore district Periyanaickenpalayam, Thiruvarur District Valangaimaan & Nannilam 60, Thiruvarur District Needamangaam and Kudavasal, Nagappattinam District Thiruppoondi 50, Nagappattinam District Mayiladuthurai, Kollidam, Thanjavur District Papanasam, Thanjavur, Coimbatore Agriculture University 40, Namakkal District Rasipuram, Kallakurichi 20 mm.

Warning for fishermen:
As there are prospects for high-speed winds blowing across at 40 kmph to 50 kmph in the areas of the southwest Bay of Bengal and Kanyakumari Ocean, it is warned to the fishermen not to venture into the ea in these areas until 30th July.

Apart from this, the fishermen in the coastal areas of Kerala, Lakhdiv and Maldives, and the central-west and south-west parts of the Arabian Sea are warned not to venture in the sea until 31st July.
