CCTV cameras installed in North Chennai

CCTV cameras were installed in key areas in North Chennai. The move is seen as an effort to curb the rising cases of murders and gang related violence in the area. The cameras, which cost between Rs. 40000 and Rs. 60000, were installed in Ashok Pillay in Vyasarpadi, Bazaar Road in Vyasarpadi, Dr. Ambedkar Arts and Science College junction in MKB Nagar, SIDCO Nagar junction and MR Nagar junction in Kodangaiyur.
‘The cameras will be maintained by residents, who would have to keep an eye on them to prevent damage by anti-socials. The initiative will ensure close interaction between
the police and residents in preventing crime’, said a police official.
