From today, 6th July 2020, lockdown 5.0 with ease of restrictions comes to effect in Chennai city. The city traffic police have decided to operate all the 400 traffic signals in Chennai city as more number of vehicles would be present on the Chennai roads.

The spots where there would be more number of vehicles have been identified and additional police personnel would be posted in those spots. This was according to a senior traffic police officer.

The newly appointed Chennai police commissioner Mr. Mahesh Kumar Agarwal has made it clear that residents of Chennai must come out of their houses only if necessary even if stringent lockdown is withdrawn. He was making his presence felt in the vehicle search at Anna Arch in Chennai yesterday. He was of the opinion that lesser movement of people could break the chain.

To make sure that necessary safety measures were followed in Chennai, all deputy commissioners of police of DCP have held discussions with the traders in their jurisdiction.

Mr. Mahesh Agarwal later mentioned that from 19th June a total of 1.10 lakhs Section 144 violating cases have been registered and as many as 87,000 vehicles have been seized.

It is important to mention here that as per the guidelines for the traders only those customers who wear facemasks must be allowed to buy essentials. The customers must be checked for temperature before entering supermarkets and they would be allowed inside only after washing their hands. Social distancing must be maintained by the customers compulsorily.
