Thunderstorms in some places in Chennai city, interior districts of TN to get light rains

The meteorological department had predicted that interior districts of TN and many places belonging to the north coastal region would get light to moderate rains till Saturday. There would be thunderstorms in some areas belonging to Chennai in the evening or in the night time.

Virudhunagar district-based Aruppukottai received 4cm of rains and this was the highest amount of rainfall in the last 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Thursday. In Chennai city, Ayanavaram and Perambur received 3cm of rain whereas Nungambakkam and Menambakkam received 1cm of rain.

There would be likely to be a similar weather pattern in Chennai for another 2 days and this was as per the meteorological department. Chennai would have an overcast sky and the day temperature would be around 34 degrees Celsius. Chennai city had pleasant weather on Thursday.

Weather stations in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded 32.7 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius respectively. This is 4 degrees Celsius below the normal in the month of June.

Till Saturday, places such as Coimbatore, Salem, Namakkal plus others like Karur, Nilgiris, Dharmapuri, Vellore, and Thiruvannamalai would receive light to moderate rains. This was according to Mr. N. Puviarasan, director of Area Cyclone Warning Centre.

Since 1st June, the Chennai district till now has received 4cm of rainfall against a seasonal average of 7cm. It is clear that there is a deficit of 43% for this period. The superb piece of information is there would be some rains in the months of July and August and this might compensate for the shortfall.
