Having a transparent admission system is very important as it would eliminate various issues regarding the admission of the students.

The news now is the higher education department has got plans to introduce online single window admission for 109 arts and science colleges in the state of TN from 2020-2021. For the purpose of testing the software, a trial run would take place on Wednesday. This single window admission process for the students would be a step closer to the transparent admission system.

A student in a single application form would be able to apply for multiple colleges and courses under this new system. The ranks and choices of the students would form the basis for admission. According to an official, during the trial, each college would be asked to register for 20 to 25 applications.

He explained that various issues would get sorted out easily and the students need not go to the colleges to apply.  In the year 2019 itself, the TN government gave its approval for the proposal but the decision was put in cold storage due to many issues such as a huge number of courses, lack of hostels, etc.

The proposal has now come back to life due to the Coronavirus crisis. The students would be able to choose their colleges and courses by means of software and by handbook that has been designed by the team headed by the commissioner of the directorate of technical education.

Various details that would be present in the handbook- The list of colleges, courses, and course-wise intake of every college. Information regarding the medium of instruction and the availability of hostels would also be available in the handbook. On Monday, the officials had meetings with the principals of the colleges online. Some professors were of the view that clarity on the eligibility criteria of each course was needed.
