Posted on: 23/Jun/2020 10:24:19 AM
Later this week, parts belonging to northern Tamil Nadu might witness an increased rainfall. The rainfall might be due to a cyclonic circulation that is expected to develop over the Bay of Bengal. Around 25th and 26 of June, there would be rains in north TN including Chennai.

During these above-said dates, there would be scattered rainfall wherein 50 percent of weather stations belonging to a region report rains. For the next 2 days, the meteorological department has predicted dry weather over most parts of TN. Many weather stations recorded rainfall in the last 24 hours that ended on Monday. It must be noted that Valparai and Solaiyar belonging to the Coimbatore district recorded 6cm of rains. There were rains in many places in Chennai and its outskirts too.

Places like Tiruvallur and Poonamallee received 3cms of rains and Perambur received 2cm rains. There are automatic rain gauges present in places like Ayanavaram, Red Hills, Sriperumbudur, and Chennai DGP office and they have recorded 1cm rains.

It was later pointed out by Mr. Puviarasan, director of Area Cyclone Warning that strong westerlies and connective activity would bring rains at 1 or 2 places over districts along Western ghats for the next 2 days. Districts like Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Kanniyakumari would receive heavy rains in one or two places. He concluded that till Wednesday, Chennai would also get light rains in the late evenings but around 25th June there would be better prospects of rains and this would be because of the weather system.
