Light to moderate rains in Chennai city

The southwest monsoon wind might result in light to moderate rains in the Chennai city plus in some isolated areas belonging to Tamil Nadu in the next 48 hours. This was according to the Regional Meteorological Centre or RMC, Chennai.

Director of RMC, Chennai, Mr. Puviarasan spoke about how due to southwest monsoon wind in TN light to moderate rains is likely to occur at some isolated places for the next 2 days. 

He added that there are thunderstorm activities in some areas in TN for the next 24 hours. It must be noted that the condition of the sky is likely to be partly cloudy and light to moderate rains is likely to take place in some areas for the next 48 hours.

The maximum temperature in Chennai city has been brought down by the clouds that covered the sky and it was 34.4 degrees Celsius. This was 3 degrees Celsius below the normal temperature. For the next 2days, this would continue. The minimum temperature was 29.1 degrees Celsius and this was 2 degrees Celsius higher than the normal. In the last 24 hours of time, many districts of TN received rains and this was mentioned by Mr. Puviarasan.

On Wednesday, Karaikal recorded the highest rainfall in the last 24 hours and it was 3cms. This was followed by Nagapattinam that received 2cms of rainfall. Districts like Salem, Ariyalur, and Nilgiris recorded 1 cm of rain. Established in the year 1945, RMC, Chennai is one of the 6 meteorological departments belonging to IMD.
